Her directorial debut, and India’s first photorealistic motion-capture
film. Performance capture was carried out at Pinewood Studios in London,
with animation completed across the United States, Hong Kong and China.
Rajinikanth played a triple role — Kochadaiiyaan, Rana and Senadheeran —
making Soundarya the first woman to direct her father in a feature film. Deepika
Padukone made her Tamil debut as Princess Vadhana Devi. The film opened simultaneously
in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi and Punjabi.
Critics divided over the animation and the film did not recover its reported
₹125 crore budget. Its technical ambition was recognised at the NDTV
Indian of the Year awards, where Soundarya was honoured for Technical Innovation
