NDTV Indian of the Year — Technical Innovation in Film
Presented for bringing India its first photorealistic motion-capture feature with Kochadaiiyaan. A pre-recorded message from her father and the presence of her mother at the ceremony were widely reported at the time.
It is worth noticing the category. This was not an award for a performance or a screenplay: it was recognition of a technical achievement, given to the person who had assembled a production pipeline that did not previously exist in the country.
That is a fair summary of the career. The consistent contribution has been to widen what an Indian production can be built from — a visual-effects house in 2005, a studio partnership in 2008, a performance-capture feature in 2014, a voice platform in 2021.
